Trump’s Return Spells Disaster for America

By Aidan Yu

In a month’s time, Donald Trump’s infamous Diet Coke button will return to the White House, heralding the beginning of his second — and thankfully, final term. But while the button may be a trivial relic, the implications of his presidency are anything but. Trump’s return is not just a step backward — it’s a free fall into chaos, division, and an unrelenting assault on the very values that define America.

First and foremost, Trump’s leadership is synonymous with a dangerous disregard for the rule of law. Throughout his first term, Trump demonstrated a willingness to flout the Constitution and governance norms in service of his personal interests. His attacks on the justice system, his refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election, and his incitement of the January 6th insurrection are clear indicators that his second term would likely see even more authoritarian tactics. A second term promises only escalation — unchecked power, institutional decay, and a government that prioritises personal vendettas over public service. Under Trump, accountability is an illusion, and principles are expendable.

Trump’s policies on healthcare, environmental protection, and education were disastrous for the American people, and a second term would only deepen these failures. He made it clear in his first term that he was more than willing to sacrifice the health of millions of citizens for corporate profits and political gain. The attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act left countless Americans vulnerable to losing health coverage. At the same time, his environmental deregulation handed power to polluting industries at the expense of our planet’s future, something which Trump has also made clear to the public. Trump didn’t govern the people; he governed the elite, leaving everyday Americans to shoulder the costs of his callous, corporate-first agenda.

If Trump’s tenure has proven anything, it’s that his presidency is a war on truth, integrity, and progress. It would be a step backward for American citizens, something which America simply cannot afford at its current stature. A deepening of the divide between those who have power and those who don’t is imminent with a president who lacks a moral compass. America simply cannot afford another four years of Trump. His presidency is a cancer on the ideals of equality, justice, and unity. The stakes are too high — for America, for democracy, and the planet. We must reject Trump’s vision of power without principle, profit without accountability, and division without end. The future of not just America but our world depends on it.
